Holiday safety & security tips from UBC Campus Security

As we prepare to wrap up another incredible year, UBC Campus Security wishes you a joyful, restful, and safe holiday season! Before you head off to enjoy time with loved ones, please take a few moments to help keep our campus secure and keep yourself safe during the holiday closure.

🏢 Before you leave your office:

  • Lock all doors and windows – including offices, labs, and exterior building access points.
  • Secure all keys – keep building and office keys safe to prevent unauthorized access.
  • Turn off lights and electronics – reduce energy use and avoid fire hazards.
  • Close blinds and curtains – especially on ground-floor windows to deter theft.
  • Secure or take-home valuables – laptops, tools, and personal items.
  • Download the UBC Safe App – stay informed with real-time campus alerts.
  • Complete the Seasonal Shutdown Checklist with your team.

🕰️ If you’re working late or alone:

❄️ Prepare for winter weather:

  • Dress warmly – be prepared for sudden extreme weather changes.
  • Keep an emergency kit in your vehicle – items such as a first-aid kit, non-perishable food, water, blankets and warm clothing, flashlight and a small shovel are useful during extreme weather.

Wishing you a safe and joyful holiday season!

From all of us at UBC Campus Security, thank you for helping keep our campus safe and secure. As you take time to rest and recharge, remember to take care of yourself and others. We look forward to welcoming you back in 2026!
