Help with the Point-in-Time Homeless Count at UBC

The Homelessness Services Association of BC (HSABC) regularly conducts Point-in-Time Homeless Count across BC. The program collects details about the experiences and demographics of people who are experiencing homelessness.

This will be the second year UBC Vancouver Point Grey is participating in the program. Led by UBC Campus Security, ongoing involvement in the program will provide a larger data set and the ability to analyze ongoing trends.

While there is an urgency for action, solutions must be trauma-informed, culturally safe, incorporate harm reduction, oriented towards social justice and equity, and contribute to decolonization and anti-discrimination. That’s why it’s vital to better understand who is unhoused and why. The Counts provide communities and all levels of government with information they can rely on to make informed, compassionate, and swift decisions that support pathways out of homelessness.

How to get involved

If you would like to help with the Point-in-Time Homeless count at UBC, please register to volunteer by March 5, 2025.

Volunteers will work in teams of two and must be 19 years of age or older. You can bring a friend or ask to be paired up with a specific person. Or come alone and we will pair you up with another volunteer!

Your volunteer time commitment will include:

  • event-day 3 hour shift (March 11)
  • 1-hour pre-event training session (March 3 or 6) or day-of training

During the event, we’ll have a central location with coffee and snacks available. You’ll pick up survey materials, “ice breakers” for folks you may interview and get a route assignment. You’ll be supported by UBC staff and HSABC regional coordinators the whole time you are volunteering.

Thank you for your involvement and support.

Participate in the survey

If you don’t have a place to pay rent (you might be staying with friends, sleeping in a vehicle, or other living situations), you can help our community by calling (236) 330-9233 on March 11 to do an anonymous, voluntary, and confidential survey.
